IEC LUNCH BASKETBALL TOUNAMENT
Senior Committee wanted to raise money for Senior Activities or items. EX: Senior Trip, Prom, Hoodie, etc. They thought of an idea to make people group together and buy snacks, but in a fun way. Over approx. 3 weeks, they developed students with the opportunity to sign up. Kamiyah Chapman created the sign up sheet that allowed students to create their own teams. Talynn created a flyer to promote the games. Natalya threw out the idea that the games should be on Friday’s up until Christmas Break. The rest of the team; Dailyne, Mariel, and Mya helped organize and really turn out the idea with help from Ms. Cabrera.
The committee had to find out what snacks they wanted to sell and how much profit they would make out of it. Ms. Espiritu had to help with how much they should sell each snack for and what would make them money. Ultimately they figure out good deals. Kamiyah tried promoting the snacks and she was getting feedback that nobody wants to buy really expensive snacks they can get at the store for cheaper. Once she told Ms. Cabrera and Ms. Espiritu, they began to brainstorm more snacks and deals like 3 for 1 or 2 for 1. Once the snack list was made, Talynn and Mariel designed another snack list that would be presented on Friday so everyone could know what is being bought and how much it would cost.
Finally the day has come and they needed to SET UP! Since they were down two members, they needed to recruit some volunteers. Mariel had some connects and asked some juniors to help, while Kamiyah and Talynn asked a couple of Seniors for help. Early in the morning, Kamiyah and Talynn helped Ms. Cabrera pack candy bags to sell with the lovely help of Ms. Espiritu. Fourth period is when some of the members prepped. The volunteers that were recruited came to help during 5th period. Ms. Montereo helped find some tables for set up and a Dry Erase board, she also found trays to help with display. The tables were layed out along side each other with a blue covering. They stacked the snacks into the trays and cleaned up any mess. The leftovers were placed under the table for restock. The Dry Erase board was used to display a bigger price list rather than the small ones placed on the table. Once the bell rung for lunch, everything was set in stone and ready for the big day!
Both Team 1 and Team 2 had to gather upstairs in the gym before the game to get ready. After at least 10 minutes Mr. Paisley sent up approx. 50-60 kids into the gym to take their seats for the game. The members of the committee went around and reminded everyone that there are snacks outside of the gym for sale. Dailyne was on music and photos and Kamiyah was in charge of keeping scores for both teams.
When the game started, everyone was riled up. The teams started off great, but eventually Team 1 was beginning to get the lead. The opposing team held their weight towards the end of the game but ULTIMATELY the senior team won. With defeating score of 48 v. 28!
Now Team 1 is going to the Championship Game happening December 22!
